Let’s face it. The vast majority of people who made new year’s resolutions had at least one that dealt with losing weight, exercising more, and/or getting in shape. With that in mind, Ursula & Associates would like to help you keep that goal by providing some great locations for walks/runs and other outdoor exercise in the Woodstock and Towne Lake areas.
First, of course, are the miles of sidewalks within the master-planned Towne Lake community. Throw in a hill here and there and you’ve got a workout sure to burn some calories.
Hobgood Park offers a half-mile walking track, two batting cages, tennis courts and a playground. It’s one of the closest parks to the Towne Lake area and one of more than a dozen parks in Cherokee County. Check out crpa.net for a complete list.
If you’re feeling adventurous, Blankets Creek on Sixes Road offers five mountain bike trails.
Sequoyah Park offers four baseball fields, an all-purpose field, a 1-mile walking track, playground and disc golf course.
Cline Park is another Cherokee County park with plenty of outdoor activities, including a playground, basketball and tennis courts, horseshoe pit, and walking trail.
Located near the new outlet mall, Olde Rope Mill Park contains a half mile paved walking path and several mountain bike trails. The Taylor Randahl Memorial Bike Trails consist of three trails of purpose-built mountain bike trail, divided into ten loops. Located next to a river, the site is also good for fishing, canoeing or kayaking.
Woofstock Park located close to downtown Woodstock is a great place to take your dogs for exercise. It features fully enclosed, separate areas for large and small dogs. It also has a walking path, as it is the trail head connection to Noonday Creek and Town to Creek Trails.
Dupree Park includes a third-mile paved fitness path that offers a family and pet-friendly location to walk/bicycle in close proximity to parking. The park also has three, family-friendly mountain bike trails, basketball and tennis courts, a pond for fishing, and a playground.
Want something a bit longer/more challenging? The Silver Comet Trail is a multi-use path for bicycling, running, walking, and skating near Atlanta. The trail is a 61.5 mile, 12 feet wide, car-free concrete path that connects the Smyrna to the Chief Ladiga trail at the Georgia-Alabama state line. There are multiple access points to the trail, including many with parking, restrooms and picnic areas. Located near I-285 and South Cobb Drive, the Mavell Road trailhead is the official starting point of the Silver Comet Trail and runs for 12.8 miles in Cobb County. Click here to view a map of access points.
Looking for a 5K (or longer) walk/run to participate in during 2016? Check out www.findarace.org. Some six pages of events came up for Georgia when we reviewed the site and more will be added throughout the year. You can also pinpoint it by city as well.
Wherever you choose to get exercise and fresh air, just know that you are smart to be doing something good for yourself and your body. Don’t give up! Especially on those cold or rainy days! Find something you enjoy doing and mix it up a bit to prevent boredom.
