Cherokee County Public Library Programs You Might Not Know About

Our Cherokee County libraries, which are collectively part of the Sequoyah Regional Library System, are some of the best in the area. It serves Cherokee, Pickens and Gilmer counties. Each library regularly holds events, speakers and activities that the public can take part in at no charge.

In Towne Lake, we are serviced by the Rose Creek Library. In Woodstock, there’s the Woodstock Public Library. The main branch of the Sequoyah Regional Library System, however, is not far away—the R.T. Jones Library just off Hwy. 20/I-575 in Canton.

Today’s library offers much more variety than libraries of old. Whether you want to renew a book online, do genealogy research or have a quiet place to access high speed internet, the libraries in Cherokee County have you covered. Did you know you even have access to fax machines and laminating services for a small fee? Or that you can download audiobooks onto your devices from your home computer? Each library branch also has access to meeting rooms, provided these are booked in advance. The library system welcomes use of its meeting rooms by governmental, educational, civic and cultural groups. All meetings or programs must be open to the public and free of charge. Click here for a list of other requirements and guidelines about the reservation of meeting rooms.

As you can see by these graphics provided by the Sequoyah Regional Library System, they have many upcoming activities that might be of interest to your family. These include upcoming programs like the Lego robotics events, a free seed program, a children's writing studio, and visits by the Atlanta Regional Workforce Development Board's Mobile Career Lab which offers job search assistance.

The Seed Library, located at the Hickory Flat Library, is open to everyone and freely distributing seeds to the public. Learn how you can take seeds and then save seeds to bring back. It’s a program that came together with the Cherokee County Master Gardeners, in collaboration with University of Georgia Cooperative Extension-Cherokee County and the Sequoyah Regional Library System.

Other past programs offered at the several library branches include guest authors, a book binding clinic, crafts night, adult Lego night, computer classes, jewelry making workshops, and summer reading programs.

Weekday story-times are available at every branch Monday-Thursday. Check the main website or with your local branch for more details.

The various branches also hold large book sales at one time or another throughout the year, with proceeds going to benefit future library programs. Want to help the library out financially with very little effort on your part? Link your Kroger Plus card to the Sequoyah Regional Library System and a tiny percentage of your spending will go to help the library buy children’s books. Follow the instructions here to sign your card up for this fundraising.

So be sure to check out the library’s website for a monthly calendar of activities and follow them on Facebook  for more timely updates.
