Heather French Henry said, “Volunteering is at the very core of being a human. No one has made it through life without someone else’s help.” So, if you desire to help or make a difference in the Cherokee County community, we salute you for generously giving your time and expertise.
Here are some organizations in the Woodstock and surrounding area that are frequently in need of volunteers. It’s by no means a comprehensive list, but will serve as a starting point for you.
The Cherokee County Senior Center is located at 1001 Univeter Road in Canton. It provides educational, social, leisure and recreational activities for senior citizens. Additional services offered by this nonprofit center include respite care, volunteer transportation services and home-delivered meals.
Volunteer opportunities abound, with drivers needed to help deliver meals to homebound seniors via the Meals-On-Wheels program. You can volunteer as little as 3 hours per week delivering meals. Senior Services is looking for compassionate volunteers to help with the Volunteer Driver Program. Many seniors in our community are unable to drive themselves to needed appointments and errands. The program provides trips to the grocery store, bank, post office, doctor appointments, etc. Schedules are set to accommodate the volunteer's availability with trips typically last 2 -3 hours.
And because the Christmas holiday season will be here before we know it, Ursula & Associates wanted to mention the center’s Adopt-A-Senior Program. Each December volunteer “elves” contact seniors in Cherokee County to determine essential items they may need. Simple requests of a gown, socks, a nice throw, etc. are the norm. Seniors are then matched up with volunteers who generously purchase the items requested.
