With fall comes a variety of festivals, activities and haunted houses in Cherokee County and North Georgia. At Ursula & Associates, we’ve compiled a cross-section of Towne Lake, Woodstock and North Georgia events for you to conveniently have in one place.

Big Springs Farms

Located in Woodstock at 2100 Sugar Pike Road, Big Springs Farms is open Fridays noon – 6 pm and weekends 10 am – 6 pm. Activities include hayrides, a new corn maze, a pumpkin patch, as well as seeing and petting a variety of farm animals. Best of all, admission and parking are free (with small fees charged for hayrides, bounce house and corn maze).

Berry Patch Farms  786 Arnold Mill Road, Woodstock

Open weekends in October from 10 am to 7 pm, take a hayride out to the pumpkin patch where you can pick out your own pumpkins. There’s also a playground and baby farm animals that are always a hit with children.

Kidsfest

Being held in downtown Woodstock on Monday, October 31st from 3 – 7 pm. This free event will feature trick or treat activities, games, face painting, costume contest, a magician and a juggler.

Scarecrow Invasion in Downtown Woodstock

Just in time for Halloween local businesses, non-profits, individuals and families create scarecrow displays that line main street in Woodstock.  You can vote for your favorite scarecrow at the visitors center downtown. The votes are $1 each.  The winner will receive bragging rights and an awesome trophy.

The proceeds from the Scarecrow Invasion will be donated to GROW. This organization, which stands for Green Reaps Opportunity for Woodstock, is the design committee for Main Street Woodstock. They create and implement great design initiatives for the Downtown Woodstock community. You might know them from their beautiful landscaping and holiday decor along Main Street. The money raised from this event will help in the further beautification of Downtown Woodstock.

Gibbs Gardens 1987 Gibbs Drive, Ball Ground

Japanese Maples Colorfest, weekends in late-October and early to mid-November Gibbs Gardens has more than 2,000 Japanese Maples that while turning color, offer a variety of fall hues.  Other plants in bloom on the many acres of the gardens include wildflowers, goldenrod, asters, and several varieties of sumac.

Warbington Farms 5555 Crow Road, Cumming

In addition to a petting zoo barn, corn crib and slides, the farm offers thousands of pumpkins for sale. They also do a twist on the standard corn maze that kids will love.  The Magical Maze involves hunting for favorite characters and having meet and greet/photo opportunities throughout the maze. Then, on October 29th, the farm will be hosting a Trunk-or-Treat. Kids can walk from trunk to trunk of vehicles for treats, spooks and surprises. The event is included in the price of admission to the farm’s Fun Park.

49th Annual Mountain Moonshine Festival

Held in the downtown Dawsonville area in late-October, the area’s history includes a great deal about moonshine. While the festival will not offer moonshine (sorry!), it will have a parade Saturday morning featuring numerous moonshine and revenue vehicles. Other activities at the festival include a car show, a swap meet, vendors, a Moonshine Run on Friday morning, and two stages with entertainment. Proceeds from the event help fund the Kare for Kids organization.

Uncle Shuck’s Corn Maze & Pumpkin Patch 4520 Highway 53 East, Dawsonville

By day, a great family outing with food, fall decorations, pumpkins and even a corn cannon. Weekends after dusk, however, it transforms into a haunted maze, bonfires and evening hayrides.

Pick your own apples!

The Ellijay area has several markets and orchards where you can buy or go out and pick the fruit yourselves. Ellijay produces more than 250,000 bushels of apples every year in 30 varieties and is known as the apple capital of Georgia.

Venture a little further north and check out the Blue Ridge area. Take a trip on the Blue Ridge Scenic Railway. They offer both weekday and weekend tours. The historic depot is located in downtown Blue Ridge.

We hope you will take advantage of the great weather and check out some of these local fall festivities. And if haunted houses are more your thing, check out Georgia Haunted Houses for an extensive list of area haunted houses and the dates/times they will be open to spook you.  For an extensive list in the state, including about a half dozen in Dahlonega and a few in Bartow County.
