Where Metro Meets the Mountains!
In less than an hour, you can be at an Atlanta Braves game or at the symphony. Cherokee County Georgia is approximately 25 miles northwest of downtown Atlanta, in the foothills of the Blue Ridge Mountains.
As growth of the Atlanta Metro area spills over into this northern county, Cherokee is determined to remain an enjoyable community for people to live. Professional developers are planning for quality growth while still protecting the areas natural resources, scenic views and comfortable residential living.

In 2003 the population of Cherokee County was approximately 159,295. Since 1980 the population has more than tripled in size. Woodstock, GA, located in the southern section of the county and Canton, GA, a little further north, are the two largest cities in Cherokee County.
Most of Woodstock’s growth can be accredited to Towne Lake a 3,600 acre Master Planned Community with shopping, great schools, churches, dining-you name it! It’s one of Atlanta’s premier communities with homes ranging from the mid $100Ks to more than $1 million. There are approximately 5,600 homes in 18 unique neighborhoods with great amenities, pools, tennis courts, and playgrounds. Towne Lake also has many apartment, townhome and condominium complexes, which brings the total community to approximately 7,500 households.
Much of Towne Lake borders Lake Allatoona, one of the most frequently visited recreational lakes in the state of Georgia. Allatoona Lake features boating, fishing and water skiing, just a wealth of recreational and scenic amenities.
Lake Allatoona offers 12,000 acres of blue water to enjoy year round. There are 13 public beaches. Some are located within campgrounds, for extended stays. Swimming, boating, sailing, fishing, make Lake Allatoona one of the most visited US Army Corps of Engineer lakes in the world.
The Cherokee Outdoor YMCA is located on about 75 acres of the lake and offers a number of youth activities and day camps. Year long sports include spring/fall soccer, summer baseball, and winter basketball or cheerleading. Equine programs are also offered.
Towne Lake is located within an easy commute to Atlanta’s major corporate centers. It offers easy access to I575 and I75, which places it in the heart of Atlanta’s continuing northern growth corridor. Towne Lake has created a whole “new Towne” of shopping centers, daily services, medical facilities, restaurants, and entertainment centers in southwest Cherokee. We even have our own 16-screen movie theatre.
Interstate 575 runs north through the county, providing very easy access to the Atlanta business and employment markets and to wonderful shopping opportunities around Town Center Mall and the neighboring shopping district. It’s only 16 miles to the outer Perimeter I285, home to many big and small name companies that employ thousands.
The area surrounding Towne Lake also boasts many new and more mature home communities as well. One of the newest is BridgeMill, Covering more than 1,700 forested acres along Lake Allatoona and bordering six magnificent miles of scenic shoreline; BridgeMill offers a magnificent natural setting. Beautiful new homes enjoy lake, forest and golf course views and families enjoy a storybook lifestyle. BridgeMill will grow into a town of 2,700 families when completed and will present an environment for the future.
If your idea of an outside activity is playing golf, Cherokee County, has six championship golf courses. Most are located right inside their respective subdivisions. Two of which are signature golf courses, Eagle Watch, which is renowned for it’s Arnold Palmer design, and Towne Lake Hills Golf Club- designed by Arthur Hills.
