Holiday Giving That Stays in the Metro Atlanta Community

With Christmas and year-end so close at hand, we wanted to let you know about some great holiday charities that are always looking for help. Whether you can give of your time, your finances, or gently used item donations, it will make your holidays even more memorable to help those in need. It's also an excellent time to get in a couple last donations when they can be used the most, while still benefiting your 2017 tax returns.

There's a reason Georgia has been ranked by WalletHub as one of the top 10 generous states.  Show your generosity and holiday spirit today!

Changed 2 Ministries

Serves the Canton area homeless. They are currently selling Christmas trees and firewood through Dec.24th at their donation center at 2484 Marietta Hwy, Canton, including 6-8 ft. live Douglas fir trees for $35-$45 and a chord of wood for $200. All proceeds go to Changed 2 Ministries. You can also conveniently donate money at their website or they take in donation items like gently used clothing and non-perishable foods should be delivered to the Donation Center.

Cherokee Recreation and Parks Agency

They held an Adopt A Senior program in the county through December 11 and needed help with adopting 300 area seniors. Check in with them to see if all their needs have been met or if some last minute needs for assistance have come in. They also work with area Meals on Wheels programs and volunteer help here is a year-round need.

Cobb Christmas

Cobb Christmas, Inc. is a non-profit, non-denominational organization dedicated to helping the low-income and working-poor families of Cobb County during the holiday season. Staffed 100% by volunteers, provides food and gifts at Christmastime to Cobb County's low-income families. Cobb Christmas provides a box of food to each client family, allowing them the opportunity to prepare a holiday meal in their home for their family. Gifts are provided to the children ages infant through 18. Each child also receives a stocking with age-appropriate items and a minimum of three toys.

Calvary Children's Home

A gift to the Calvary Children's Home directly helps boys and girls in crisis experience new beginnings. This Cobb County based organization has existed for decades and obviously has a need beyond the Christmas holiday season. The website offers a convenient Donate Now button as well as a Commemorative Brick Program. In addition to financial giving, Calvary Children's Home is also looking for the following donations: food (perishable or non-perishable), paper products (toilet paper, paper towels, paper plates etc.), hygiene products, gently used or new clothing, furniture, and general household items such as light bulbs, cleaners and tools.

MUST Ministries

This organization has been helping those in Cobb and Cherokee County for over 40 years. MUST helps people in the local community break the cycle of poverty and homelessness. MUST provides basic necessities such as food, clothes and housing, free of charge. They have very real, year-round needs for all types of donations. Their Donation Center is located at 55 Chastain Road, Suite 110, Kennesaw and is open Tuesday - Saturday, 9-5 pm. Cash donations also accepted on the website or via mail.

Area Nursing Homes

Nursing homes everywhere can always use help making their residents' holidays a little brighter. So many seniors have no one to visit them during the holiday time. Typical gifts needed at nursing homes include, for men or women, slippers, sweat pants and shirts, socks, hand lotion, personal toiletries, stamps, etc. Dropping off a few items here can make a much bigger difference than you might think in the lives of these older Americans.

Charities of all sizes abound in the area. Whether it's a local church collecting coats or canned goods, area Toys for Tots donation sites, or organizations needing additional volunteers to distribute gifts or feed hungry people, there's no shortage of ways to be of service to others this season.

Just remember, charities like the ones we've listed above could use your help beyond the holiday season. Whether you're thinning out overstuffed closets or making room for the kids' new toys by paring down the old ones, there's a very good chance someone could desperately use those items.

Or if you're out catching those post-holiday clearance sales, keep these organizations in mind for everything from blankets and pillows to clothing.

Happy holidays from everyone at Ursula & Associates at Keller Williams Realty Partners in Woodstock, GA!
