June is National Homeownership Month
June has been designated National Home Ownership Month. It’s an especially good time to be celebrating the purchase of a home, especially here in the current Cherokee County real estate market. Property values continue to rise and buyer demand is increasing for the availability of move-in ready homes.
Ursula & Associates would like to go on record right now, at the start of the summer, and predict that this year will be an even more active summer for Cherokee County real estate than it was in 2015. It’s a seller’s market, with competitively priced, move-in ready listings going under contract in Towne Lake in an average of just three weeks.
The question you have to ask yourself is will you take advantage of the summer real estate market? Or will you wait until next summer to buy a home, when home prices will be at least 6-12 percent higher than right now and mortgage interest rates could very likely be higher? Why would you want to pay tens of thousands of dollars more to buy the same size home in the same desired area a year from now?
Aside from that, paying rent is not a good investment. Why not build that wealth and have those tax deduction benefits yourself? This year’s theme is “Dare to Own the Dream.” Throughout the month of June, HUD will host a series of Twitter chats to discuss homeowner-ship topics like how to know if you’re ready for homeowner-ship and deciding whether an FHA mortgage is right for you. You can follow these chats with #OwntheDream.
National Home Ownership Month began as a week-long focus on homeownership in 1995. In 2002, it was expanded to a full month. It began as a presidential initiative to support and expand homeownership opportunities for Americans.
At Ursula & Associates, we firmly believe owning a home is one of the cornerstones of the American Dream. Perhaps former HUD Secretary Shawn Donovan summarized it the best when he said, “Owning a home has historically been the principal vehicle for Americans to build equity, start businesses, put kids through college, and retire with comfort and dignity. After all we’ve been through, we must stand by an institution that has helped build our nation’s middle class.”
So let us know if you or anyone you know has questions about the home-buying or ownership process. Part of our job in real estate is to educate and we know that buying a home, especially for the first time, can be an overwhelming process. It’s our job to inform you and make that process go as smoothly as possible. We feel very fortunate to live and work in the Towne Lake real estate market and we want to share that experience with others.
