Why Cherokee County is One of Metro Atlanta’s Most Sought-After Areas to Live
Cherokee County has been a sought after place to raise a family for about two decades. With easy access to interstates, one at each side of the county, it makes the drive into Atlanta easier for work, sporting events, concerts, and other activities. A half hour drive to the east, and you can visit additional restaurants, malls, another concert venue and much more in Alpharetta and Roswell.
Our convenient location of being within 30-45 minutes of a laundry list of metro Atlanta activities isn’t the only reason to love Cherokee County. There’s a lot to do here without ever leaving the county. Woodstock and Towne Lake have a huge advantage with being so close to Lake Allatoona. The county has top-rated schools, great amenities, an aquatics center with outdoor water park, a YMCA, numerous local arts and cultural activities, a growing number of public parks (Veterans Memorial Park in Canton recently broke ground), extensive trail systems, two major healthcare providers, several higher education campuses and an ever-growing list of restaurants.
At Ursula & Associates, we know we’re a little biased, because we live and work in the Towne Lake and Woodstock communities. However, others are taking note as well. The Atlanta Regional Commission’s Senior Communications Coordinator, Jim Janquish, publicly commended the community in a Cherokee Ledger-News article in May, when he said, “The northern suburbs are growing quickly due to relatively low housing costs and good schools. Cherokee is seen as a good place to raise a family. Woodstock and Canton are vibrant, growing communities that attract singles and families to the area.”
Cherokee County, especially in comparison to areas such as Gwinnett, DeKalb and North Fulton counties, offers low taxes and has extensive land available for growth being predicted over the next 20+ years. Large businesses are taking note. The Riverwalk Parkway area off I-575 now has a large, outdoor mall filled with name brand outlet stores as well as a growing list of restaurants. Costco has just been approved to build a store in the county. The massive, new hospital just off the I-575 in Canton is nearly completed.
The downtown Woodstock/Main Street area has added new businesses, a trolley system to get around and is in the running to be recognized as one of America’s best main streets. Woodstock ranks ninth in the state’s top 10 fastest growing cities.
The future looks bright for our county and, with that growth, higher property values and demand for living space in Cherokee County will follow. For those of you who already live here, kudos to getting here early. For those considering a move to the Towne Lake/Woodstock area, delaying even a few years could be a costly mistake.
