Welcome to Towne Lake

Towne Lake is one of metro Atlanta’s top master-planned communities. Located approximately 20 miles northwest of Atlanta in southern Cherokee County, Towne Lake was developed by the Means Brothers company in the late 1980s. The purpose was to have an upscale, residential area just off Interstate 575. At that time, most of Cherokee County was undeveloped and it was an ideal location to create a master-planned community north of Atlanta. The goal was to have ample commercial businesses pepper the area as well to make it a full-service, self-contained community of Cherokee County.

Boundaries include Interstate 575 on the east, Towne Lake Pkwy. connecting to Eagle Drive on the south. Bells Ferry Road on the west and Lake Allatoona on the north.

About Towne Lake

The heavily wooded and rolling Towne Lake site formerly known as the Thousand Acre Woods to long-time locals has undergone extensive land-use studies, market analyses and infrastructure development. The community development zoning designation allowed for parks, common areas, schools, churches and safety facilities, in addition to the single-family, multi-family, light industrial, retail and commercial development designations.

A 60-acre site was donated to Cherokee County for a recreational park. It now includes tennis courts, a walking trail and baseball diamonds. And it is now known as Hobgood Park and has just recently received a major face lift.  It is the largest recreational public park in Cherokee County.   In addition JRC/Towne Lake, Ltd. has donated school sites for a high school, junior high school and elementary schools.

Towne Lake Facts

You might be surprised to learn how Towne Lake got its name. The name was created as a reference to its close geographic proximity to Woodstock and Lake Allatoona.  Within Towne Lake, there are two creeks, Rose Creek and Noonday Creek. Both flow northward and empty into the Little River arm of Lake Allatoona.

Interstate 575 runs north through the county, providing very easy access to the Atlanta business and employment markets and to wonderful shopping opportunities around Town Center Mall and the neighboring shopping district. It's only 16 miles to the outer Perimeter I285, home to many big and small name companies that employ thousands.
